ROYALISTS SERVE UP GOAL-LESS START

Windsor & Eton got off to a slow start to the new season managing a goal-less draw against newly promoted East Thurrock Utd at Stag Meadow.

Neither side could find the target in a game that lived up to be the typical season opener.

Windsor edged a dull first half with limited chances which mainly fell to the front pair of Wallace and Warner.

Warner turned the visiting defence beautifully after being put through by Dean Clark only to see his effort come off the foot of Jamie Riley.

A quick free kick allowed Wallace to get through to be denied by Riley and Warner's follow up effort was blocked on the line.

East Thurrock picked up towards the end of the half and it was thanks to a timely block from Paul Holsgrove that Danny Hazleden's effort didn't go in.

The second half started all well and good for Windsor and an early free kick almost saw them go ahead.

Matt Bicknell lined the ball up with his initial effort hitting the wall and his second attempt forcing Riley to tip the ball over the bar.

East Thurrock were lucky not to be reduced to ten men when Danny Dafter grabbed the throat of Paul Holsgrove only for the referee to produce a yellow card.

A string of substitutes couldn't earn either side a break through, although Drake was called upon for one last dramatic save in injury time for Hazleden.
