BASINGSTOKE BATTERED

Windsor & Eton put in the display of the season so far as they saw off Basingstoke Town 4-0 at Stag Meadow.

First half goals from Lewis Cook, Paul Holsgrove and Peter Holsgrove and a fourth from Dave Carroll in the second half saw Windsor safely in to the next round of the FA Trophy.

The Royalists never really seemed troubled by their higher league opposition and went looking for an early lead, which they almost got.

Lewis Cook swung in his free kick which was flicked goalward by Peter Holsgrove and into the arms of Scott Tarr.

That combination was reversed minutes later, providing Windsor with the lead they were looking for.

Peter Holsgrove got free down the right and his cross managed to find Lewis Cook who controlled the ball before firing past Tarr.

One became two midway through the half when Peter Holsgrove got down the right again and this time his cross found his brother Paul who volleyed past the keeper.

Paul Holsgrove should have made it three just a couple of minutes later when Peter Holsgrove got clear of the Basingstoke defence.

He laid the ball off to brother Paul, leaving Tarr stranded on the edge of the area, and shot just wide.

Windsor added their third just minutes before half time when Paul Holsgrove was left with only the keeper to beat and as he went to play the ball round the keeper he was tripped by Tarr and a penalty awarded.

Tarr was lucky to only get a caution but could do nothing to keep out Peter Holsgrove's spot kick.

If Basingstoke hadn't already realised it, defeat was confirmed early in the second half.

Some neat passing saw Lewis Cook get room to cross and when the ball eventually reached Dave Carroll he made no mistake with placing his shot past Tarr.
