ROYALISTS OUT OF FA CUP

Windsor & Eton are out of the FA Cup after losing 2-1 away at Maidenhead Utd.

Jamie Cook and Barrie Matthews gave the home side a two goal lead before Peter Holsgrove pulled one back for Windsor who also had Justin Skinner sent off.

Both sides started out strongly but it was the home side that would gain the advantage.

A needless shove by Sonny Ball on James Cook earned Maidenhead a penalty which Cook gladly slotted past Chuck Martini.

A few minutes later and Windsor could have been level when Dave Carroll's free kick was flicked on by Lee Kersey and then golward by Peter Holsgrove who was denied by Nick Hart.

Windsor were left cursing their luck moments later when Brendan Gallen's slip allowed Peter Holsgrove to get off a shot that came back off the post.

Barrie Matthews, Rob Saunders and Craig O'Connor all had good efforts saved by Martini in the later stages of the first half.

The second half almost got off to the worst start for Windsor when Peter Holsgrove was left with a gash in his left shin after a challenge from Andy Dugdale. Luckily he was able to continue.

But mid-way through the half saw Windsor reduced to ten men when Justin Skinner tangled with former Royalist Craig O'Connor. This would be the start of a further 10 cards being shown in the last twenty minutes of the game.

The man advantage paid off for Maidenhead as they doubled their lead minutes later.

Brendan Gallen's run down the left wasn't stopped and he managed to send in a low cross that was stabbed in by Barrie Matthews.

Windsor were handed a glimmer of hope when Dugdale was judged to have brought down Keith Scott right on the edge of the area winning his side a free kick.

Dave Carroll rolled the ball to Peter Holsgrove who struck a shot past Nick Hunt.

Windsor came close to forcing a replay deep into injury time. Chuck Martini's free kick from the half way line was flicked on by Keith Scott and as Tony Reid looked to turn it in Brendan Gallen managed to fire the ball over.
