ROYALISTS SCRAPE THROUGH

Windsor & Eton made it through to the next round at the first time of asking beating Beaconsfield SYCOB 2-1 at Holloways Park.

Sam Stanley put SYCOB ahead but second half goals from Peter Holsgrove and Keith Scott put Windsor through.

Although Windsor made it through they were entirely convincing in the way they did it.

Beaconsfield soaked up anything Windsor threw their way and until Dave Carroll's 15th minute free kick went just wide, they never looked like creating much.

Sofiane Mehdi went close when his effort midway through the half was tipped over for a corner.

Windsor were almost undone on 30 minutes when Kevin Cotton got free on the left and crossed for Allan Arthur, who headed over.

Windsor then had a penalty turned down when Keith Scott was pulled down by John Carroll and moments later Beaconsfield were successful in their appeals for a spot kick.

Chris Chase's cross struck the arm of Dave Tilbury and the referees assistant immediately signaled for a penalty.

Sam Stanley stepped up and calmly placed the ball past Chuck Martini.

Whatever was said by manager Dennis Greene at half time, it seemed to have an effect as Windsor stepped up a gear and looked a lot better.

Keith Scott had a header pushed away by Carl Tasker when he connected with a Sofiane Mehdi cross.

A Scott header then set up the Windsor equaliser when he got on the end of a Dave Carroll free kick forcing Tasker to save leaving Peter Holsgrove to slot the ball into the net.

Windsor were now enjoying a prolonged period of applying pressure to the Beaconsfield defence and should have got themselves in front.

Adam Mansueto got on the end of deep cross from Lewis Cook forcing Tasker to concede a corner. Four corners and four very good chances later finally saw Beaconsfield break.

The ball was cleared up to an offside Chris Chase who was allowed to continue through on goal before being halted by Morgaro Gomis, earning Beaconsfield a free kick and himself a booking.

Gomis was again on hand to keep his side from going behind when he got in a last ditch tackle on Allan Arthur just as he was about to shoot.

Martini pulled off a superb when substitute Leon Callender got his head onto Gary King's cross.

Windsor finally got themselves ahead minutes before the end.

Dave Carroll's corner found the head of Keith Scott which went in despite the last ditched attempts of a Beaconsfield defender.
