BANSTEAD DUMP ROYALISTS

Windsor & Eton will have to step up a gear if they are to maintin their top spot and win the league after a 1-0 defeat at home to Banstaead Athletic.

Windsor started well and should have done better with their early chances.

Lee Roache managed to ride a couple of tackles before his shot was saved by the legs of keeper Tony Webb.

Bansteads failure to clear a corner almost resulted in a goal from Craig O'Connor. His effort was well saved by Webb low to the keepers right.

The second half started almost perfectly for Windsor when Leon Townley's long clearance found Craig O'Connor who was one on one with an on rushing Webb who O'Connor lobbed but sent the bal over the bar.

Jason Cousins was then inches away from connecting with Dave Tilbury's flick off of a Dave Carroll corner.

Banstead showed signs of not giving up easily and were unluckly when James Greenaway and Marcel Dennis combined to create and effort which Chuck Martini got a hand to and Leon Townley just mnaged to clear inches from goal.

Danny Wise blocked another Lee Roache effort on the line when the Windsor forward got his head to another Carroll corner.

Chuck Martini had been relitively quiet through the game but when called upon was sharp as ever.

Marcel dennis had got past Dave Tilbury and had only Martini to beat. The Banstead midfield struck a shot which Martini did well to tip over the bar.

But, for all their persistance Windsor were to be left with nothing at the end.

Just as it looked like the referee waqs going to end the game substitute Neil John nipped past Jason Cousins and chased a long ball.

Martini came out and seemed to be favourite to win the ball but as he did John stuck out his boot, caught Martini, who spilt the ball allowing John an easy finish.
