ROYALISTS FIND THE MISSING LINK

It just goes to show that one man can make a difference, and that man is Dave Carroll.

It is no coincidence that Windsor & Eton have only picked up a point in their last three games and then start winning when Carroll returns.

The need for a win was more important than ever for Windsor in this match after a poor two weeks they had to get back to winning ways.

Dave Carroll returned but Leon Townley, Craig O'Connor, Jermaine Lowe and Keith Scott were all rested on the bench and Younis Nabil, Terry O'Connor and Spencer Walsh were all left out of the squad.

Carroll's influence on the way that the Windsor players controlled the game was instant and it was Carroll that set-up the home sides opener.

A free kick on the side of the Croydon area was played low by Carroll and smashed in by Lee Roache.

There should have been a second when reserve team midfielder, Morgaro Gomis latched onto a lose ball after Lee Roache had been tackled by keeper John Odlum.

Gomis struck a shot from the corner of the box which seemed to be looping over Odlum but he just managed to get a grip at the last moment.

The lead was doubled mid-way through the half and no surprises that it was another ball from Carroll, this time to Matt Brady who side-footed in.

Roache came close again in the later stages of the half with a long rang effort that struck the outside of the post.

Chances were few and far between in the early stages of the second half and when Carroll was taken off it looked like the creativity might have gone with hime had it not been for the introduction of James Cox, another product of the reserve team.

Cox game the Croydon defence plenty to worry about in the close twenty minutes of the match, coming close himself.

First from a Brady corner which was headed goalward by Jason Cousins which came back off the bar and then by Cox which was well saved and then Cousins tried again but was floored by a boot to the face.

Cox then flew past Sheldon Brown and played a low cross to Roache who totally missed the ball and the chance to grab a second goal.

Cox almost capped of a fantastic afternoon when he was played in by Brady and tried to chip the keeper but the ball went just the wrong side of the post.

There was one last piece of drama when referee Knapp went down with a calf strain meaning he couldn't continue. One of his assistants took control for the last couple of minutes with Malcolm Williams running the line.
