TWO-HORSE RACE?  EVEN THE BOOKIES SAY SO NOW

Courtesy of www.thisiswindsor.com.

BETWEEN them this season Lewes and Windsor have notched up 33 wins in the league and it seems everyone has accepted that this is now a two-horse race for the title - including the gamblers of the world.

Internet betting firm Buzzbet has been quoting prices on senior non-league football since the start of the campaign but when it comes to Division One (South) of the Ryman League they have pretty much closed the book on everyone, bar the top two.

Lewes are firm favourites at 3/1 on but Windsor's price of 100/30 (or'Burlington Bertie' as insane betting guru John McCririck would call it) represents excellent value for a two-horse race only half-completed with both competitors quite evenly matched.

The Sussex side are in the stronger position admittedly but after tomorrow will be three games behind which will have to be played when the players are getting tired and injuries tend to stack up.

Also they suffered a 6-1 defeat this week at the hands of Banstead Athletic, an unthinkable result at the start of the game and a defence which looked so solid for months is now looking decidedly shaky.

They trail the Royalists by two points still and the two sides still have to play again when Windsor take a trip towards Brighton on March 13 for what should be a cracking contest.

If Windsor could win that then Lewes' advantage would effectively be over. It is already looking like it will go down to the wire.

Anyone still looking outside of the top two for the winner would be handsomely rewarded should a dark horse storm through to win.

Hampton & Richmond are next best on 16/1, Dulwich are 20/1, Worthing or Leatherhead are both 22/1 and a quid on either Slough, Staines or Croydon Athletic would get you £66 for the win.

And the phrase 'the early bird catches the worm' could prove true.

Before a ball was kicked Windsor were priced at 20/1 and when the Observer first highlighted the website in early October they were still 9/1 for the title.

There may be a few brave Windsor fans with tickets tucked away in drawers which could go towards some champagne should the Royalists come good in May.

Seeing your team get promoted and getting some money into the bargain. As Chandler once said in 'Friends': "Throw in a tree and a fat guy and you've got Christmas."
