ROYALISTS GO SECOND

Windsor & Eton reclaimed second place in the league after a spirited display in terrible conditions, winning 4-2 at home against Leatherhead.

Goals from Craig O'Connor, Dave Carroll, Keith Scott and a penalty from Kieran Gallagher secured the points for Dennis Greene's men.

The wet and windy weather combined with a slippery muddy pitch were always going to make this a very interesting game to watch.

Both sides went out looking for an early lead and Leatherhead got just that.

Jermaine Lowe had just headed a Wesley Harrison effort off the line when Leatherhead were awarded a free kick on the side of the area.

Phil Ruggles flicked the ball on with his head and when Chuck Martini slipped over trying to get to the ball Iain Hendrey slotted the ball in.

Keith Scott came close with a header moments later before Craig O'Connor pulled level.

Ryan Parson's ball looked destined to be taken by Michael Johnston but he was just beaten to it by Scott allowing O'Connor to finish under pressure.

Both sides continued to look for the advantage with Scott missing another header and Ruggles having his header tipped onto the bar it looked like it was going to be a very tight game.

That was until a mistake from the visiting midfield. They missed Jason Cousin's clearance allowing Kieran Gallagher to run clear and cross for Craig O'Connor. His effort was blicked but Dave Carroll was on hand to fire in the follow up.

Windsor seemed in control and had finally mastered the art of the quick freek kick.

Gallagher, Parsons and Carroll all catching the Leatherhead defence asleep only to see the efforts of Scott and O'Connor blocked by Danny Lavender each time.

Windsor had claims for a penalty when O'Connor was clipped not once but three times by Mark Charles-Smith, Lavender and Hendrey before getting the ball away.

Windsor went straight out to increase their lead at the start of the second half and were unlucky when O'Connor struck wide and Johnston did well to deny Carroll.

Johnston was nothing more than a spectator when Windsor added their third just ten minutes after the restart.

Carroll's free kick was met buy the head of Scott and the ball looped over Johnston's head and in.

Leatherhead were thrown a lifeline just after the hour when substitute and manager Alex Inglethorpe was brought down by Martini and a penalty awarded.

Ruggles stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake in beating Martini.

Leatherhead's chances of taking anything from the game were ended less than ten minutes later when Windsor won a penalty of their own.

Adam Gray took the legs of Craig O'Connor and it was down to Kieran Gallagher to convert the spot kick which he did with ease.

Windsor had chances to extend their lead in the final minutes of the match when Craig O'Connor had one effort saved and put the other over the bar.

He almost setup Scott as well when his low cross was just inches too far in front of the Windsor striker.
