ROYALISTS FINALLY THROUGH

After three games, ten goals and a floodlight failure, Windsor & Eton are finally through to the second round of the FA Trophy after beating Enfield 3-0.

Goals from Craig O'Connor, his Brother Terry and a penalty from Dave Carroll set up a mouth watering home tie against Canvey Island.

Enfield had the worst possible preparation coming in to the match having had their manager leave after Saturdays game along most of their first team squad.

Enfield started the match with just five players that hade been named in the previous two games, the rest were made up from youth and reserve team players.

The Enfield players put up a good fight but it was never going to be easy as they found out when Windsor took the lead after just six minutes.

Kieran Gallagher's cross from the right was headed down to Craig O'Connor by Keith Scott and O'Connor fired past James Courtnage.

O'Connor could have doubled the lead shortly after had it not been for a tremendous save from Courtnage after a good through ball from Jermaine Lowe.

Windsor continued to try and build on their lead when Dave Carroll's free kick found Gallagher who crossed and found the head of Keith Scott. His effort was blocked by Matt Waldron.

Carroll took the resulting corner, playing the ball short to Gallagher on the corner of the area and the letting off a shot that just skimmed the top of the bar.

Windsor seemed to be looking to take everything quickly and it was almost paying off.

Carroll's quick free kick found Scott who tangled with Courtnage before the Windsor striker put the ball wide.

Jermaine Lowe came very close to getting his first Windsor goal when his curling effort was turned round the post by Courtnage just before half time.

Windsor continued pressing hard in the second half, looking for the safety of a second goal and it almost came from Dave Carroll. His 25 yard effort stinging the hands of Courtnage.

Craig O'Connor's weak shot from another Carroll quick free kick should have sealed it, but left the home side still holding on by the smallest of leads.

The home supporters could finally start relaxing midway through the second half when Windsor got their second goal.

Substitute Jamie Furmage floated the ball over the Enfield defence releasing Leon Townley who crossed for Terry O'Connor, another sub, who turned Mark Whittington and shot past Courtnage for his first Windsor goal.

What followed just minutes later seemed to baffle everyone in the ground.

Dave Carroll got round Ross Garwood and just as he crossed the ball the assistant referee started waving his flag. Keith Scott headed the ball goalwards and it knocked straight out again.

With the assistant still waving no one was sure what had happened. Had the ball gone out before reaching Scott? Had the ball crossed the line?

It was neither of those, but in fact as Carroll had gone past Garwood he had been caught and a penalty awarded. Carroll took the kick and thought that Courtnage had done enough to keep it out only for it to squeeze under the keepers body and in.

Craig O'Connor had the chance to cap a great game when Keith Scott broke down the left and crossed to O'Connor, but he had a bit to much time to think about what he was going to do and fired the ball well over the bar.
