Abandoned Due To Floodlight Failure
In Extra Time
ROYALISTS LEFT IN THE DARK

Windsor & Eton players suffered a night of de-ja-vue as their FA Trophy match was plunged into darkness.

Having come from behind to force extra time and then taken the lead, Dennis Greene's men will have to start their replay all over again, this time at home.

Unlike when this happend in the FA Trophy last season against Vauxhall Motors, the referee showed no interest in allowing the club time to sort the problem and abandoned the game.

Windsor have every right to feel cheated as they had been by far the most dominant of the two sides with Kieran Gallagher and especially Terry O'Connor running riot down either wing.

The first half was high on action but low on chances due to the fact that Greene had to start with only one forward.

One forward or not, Craig O'Connor was not going to be easily put off as he showed in the first five when he strucka thunderous volloey past James Courtnage and the post.

Terry O'COnnor tormented the Enfield defence throughout the game and came very close when his ffort was tipped overthe bar by Courtnage after beating away the advances of Phill Moody and Danny Honeyball.

Enfield's only chance of the half fell to George Fowler who fired over after Chuck Martini Had punched clear Lee Endersby's corner.

There was more to come in the second half as Windsor didn't give Enfield a moments rest.

Jermaine Lowe came within inches of his first goal for the club when he turned a Kieran Gallagher cross just pst the post in the opening minute of the half.

Craig O'Connor did the sames after creating an opening for himself having gotten past four Enfield players.

Then camethe lapse in concentration that Enfield were looking for.

After efforts from Terry O'Connor and Dave Tilbury were both blocked the ball seemed to be carried over the line for a corner. Nothing was given and while the Windsor players were still debating with the refree Courtnage launched the ball down field

Jeff Hammond beat Chuck Martini to the ball and slotted the ball in from a tight angle.

Enfield then threw on all their substitutes and one of those, Stanly Makr-Dennis, forced Martini into an amazing save when his volley deflected off Dave Tilbury.

Windsor then made an inspired substitution of their own, bringing on Keith Scott and Junior Jones for Spencer Walsh and Jack Smillie.

Scott had been on the pitch just five minutes before heading his side level.

Terry O'Connor's cross was headed down by Scott to Jones who played it back out to Kieran Gallgher. His cross was then met by an unmarked Scott for an easy finish.

Five minutes later, Scott finished his cameo apperance and was replaced by Jamie Furmage.

Extra time was needed and Windsor got themsleves in front after just four minutes when Dave Carroll's corner was pinged around the Enfield area finnally falling to Gallagher 25 yards out. He lifted the ball over the heads of the Enfield defence and Craig O'Connor and Danny Honeyball gave chase.

The Enfield defender may have got to the ball first, but all he succeeded in doing was lift the ball over his keeper and into the net.

It was all starting to go too well and only two minutes after the game restarted, the ground was plunged into darkness when the floodlights failed.

Ultimately the game was abandoned and in accordance with FA Trophy Competition Rules, if a game is in extra time and abandonded, the venue of the re-arranged game will be decided with the toss of a coin.

Windsor won the toss and the tie will be played at Stag Meadow next week.
