DYKE SHOWN THE DOOR BY ROYALISTS

ROYALISTS have begun their clearout of players even though there are still seven games left on this campaign.

This was prompted after Windsor and Eton bowed out of the Berks & Bucks Cup on Tuesday night in a 5-0 hammering by Maidenhead United at Stag Meadow.

The first to be shown the door by manager Dennis Greene is Shaun Dyke who the Royalists manager says has failed to perform too often this season.

"I told Shaun that I was releasing him from his contract today (Wednesday) because I believe he has a bad attitude and has shown a lack of effort," said Greene. "His performances in training have been poor and this has been matched in numerous games this season. I would say that he has only played properly in six or seven despite playing in 50 matches. All he wants to do is moan and complain."

The past month for Royalists has been very disappointing as they have lost six of their last seven matches, including Tuesday night's cup tie.

In that game, Royalists were deprived of their entire back four and it showed as Maidenhead had six chances and scored five.

Leon Townley suffered a neck injury in the first few minutes at Whyteleafe on Saturday, Dave Tilbury was suspended and Ryan Parsons was cup tied.

Greene's view of the Maidenhead defeat was that all the problems were at the back, as evidenced by the final scoreline. "It was always going to be difficult without our regular defence. I thought that we were alright in midfield and attack but we were always struggling at the back,' he added.

But one benefit of the recent poor run with a much weakened team team is that it has sharpened Greene's awareness of what is lacking within the squad. "I now know that my squad isn't good enough when we have injuries. I know who I will be retaining and who I will be letting go in the close season.

"What has been really disappointing though is some of the players attitudes. It seems to me that they just couldn't be bothered and that isn't acceptable."

Certain to be kept despite Greene's summer clearance are midfield trio Dave Carroll, Kieren Adams and the currently injured Matt Brady.

They have been a shining light for Windsor and their absence over the past few weeks has contributed to the poor performances.

Brady still hasn't resumed training but the player is keen to figure again before the season ends on May 3.

But a word of caution came from Greene when he said that he still wasn't back in training and any game would be a week after then.

One thing though to please Greene has been the performance of his reserve players who have helped plug some of the gaps.

He said: "One or two of them will be fringe players with the first team next season. They have taken their chance well."

But before then, Royalists will be looking to halt their slide into mid-table with games against relegation threatened sides in the coming week.

On Saturday, Croydon Athletic are the visitors to Stag Meadow and the visitors will have ben buoyed by their 3-0 derby success over Croydon on Tuesday night.

Then on Tuesday night, Royalists travel to Leatherhead
