ROYALISTS OUT IN SHOOTOUT

It was fun while it lasted but Windsor & Eton's Trophy run came to an end after a dramatic penalty shootout.

Aylesbury took a late lead through substitute Joe Baker and had Adam Campion sent off before Dave Carroll equalised in injury time.

Windsor started strong and had the best of the opening chances.

Alex Stanley mis-kicked when trying to clear a long Craig O'Connor throw allowing Matt Brady to shoot, unfortunately over.

Sean Dyke was a constant threat down the right and his continued supply to O'Connor and Kieren Adams should have produced goals.

Dave Tilbury will also feel he should have given his side the lead when he headed wide at the far post from a Matt Brady free kick.

Windsor lost the services of Adams midway through the half when he was replaced by Rob Saunders after suffering a concussion when clashing heads with Steve McGrath.

Aylesbury's only clear chance came towards the end of the half. James Heeps long kick eluded he Windsor defence allowing Adam Campion in, but he shot well over.

Heeps picked up a needless yellow card at the end of the half when he launched the ball into the car park after Windsor were awarded a free kick.

Windsor continued their dominance at the start of the second half.

Sean Dyke continued his darting runs and when he beat Alex Stanley and crossed, Heeps fumbled and Brady tried to lob the ball over the covering defender, but sent the ball wide.

Aylesbury tried to fight back and when Trevor Bunting uncharacteristically fumbled Daniel Gordon's free kick McGrath was ready to pounce, which Bunting saved.

O'Connor's long throws were causing Aylesbury problems all through the game and provided Dave Carroll with a great opportunity but his effort didn't have enough behind it.

Windsor had a few golden opportunities in the half.

Sean Dyke beat Alex Stanley and crossed O'Connor headed back across goal from Brady who was blocked by McGrath.

Rob Saunders headed O'Connor clear of the defence and he managed to get past Heeps only for Daniel Gordon to block the shot on the line.

Bunting then pulled off a great save when Kezie Ibe headed a Craig Maskell cross from point blank range.

After all Windsor endeavors it was Aylesbury who took the lead.

Fiston Manuella slid the ball through to substitute Joe Baker and the Windsor defence hesitated waiting for an off side flag that never arrived allowing Baker to shoot past Bunting.

Windsor went all out for the crucial goal and even added an extra option in attack when Gordon Hill replaced captain Dave Tilbury.

It so nearly paid off when Dyke beat Greg Williams and crossed for Hill who's header was very well saved by Heeps.

Aylesbury were then reduced to ten men when Adam Campion cynically scythed down Jamie Furmage earning him a straight red card.

That was all Dennis Greene needed for Windsor final push and he then brought on himself for Rob Saunders.

Bunting made one more important save from Gareth Risbridger before Dave Carroll's moment of magic.

Carroll picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch and just started rounding all of the Aylesbury players that stood in his way.

When he finally saw the slightest gap he shot and the ball squeezed past Heeps to send the Windsor faithful into hysteria and Aylesbury into stunned silence.

Extra time was subdued compared to normal time.

Greene came close when he got his head onto a Dave Carroll free kick in the early stages of the second period of extra time.

Windsor were lucky not to lose Trevor Bunting after a horror challenge from substitute Chris Bangura which left three long stud marks across the Windsor keepers chest and earned him a yellow card.

Windsor had one last effort right at the end when a poor clearance from a Matt Brady corner allowed Dave Carroll to send the ball back in and Leon Townley's effort was well saved.

The shootout didn't start well for Windsor when Heeps saved O'Connor's effort by turning it onto the post.

Maskell converted Aylesbury's first and then Dave Carroll scored with his.

Trevor Bunting managed to get his revenge on Bangura when he saved his attempt.

Matt Brady had no trouble with his and McGrath was lucky with his when Bunting guessed the right way, got a hand on it and turned it onto the post on the other side and in.

Leon Townley's was saved by Heeps and Bunting was unable to keep out Alex Stanley's effort.

Sean Dyke had no trouble with his penalty leaving Job Baker to score and win the tie for Aylesbury.

In all fairness, Windsor had the right to feel totally gutted after the shootout. They had played some very fine football against a team who were happy to lump the ball from one end to the other.
