PRESS STATEMENT

The Chairman, Manager and Senior Players met at Windsor and Eton FC on Saturday 3rd April and a full and frank discussion took place resulting in full agreement being reached in relation to the payment of outstanding wages and expenses to be achieved by the end of the season.

The proposals have been accepted and the players continue to be totally focused on completing their season and hopefully this will result in promotion to the Premier Division of the Zamaretto Southern League.

In common with almost every other semi-professional football club, this season has proved to be one of the most difficult because of the effect of the recession. At the commencement of the season one of the Club’s main sponsors withdrew through business problems. This was followed by exceptional expenditure as a result of having to hire a diesel generator to provide power to the Club’s floodlights. Other major electrical problems necessitated the replacement of electrical cables; and all this expenditure became urgent and was unavoidable if the Club was to operate at the current level of semi-professional football. The hire of coaches for away matches has added to the Club’s expenditure due largely to significant increases in fuel prices.

Throughout this time Keith Scott has always operated within the budget set by the Chairman at the beginning of the season and the over-expenditure that has been incurred by the Club this season is unrelated to the playing budget, which refutes any suggestion made in recent media articles. It is recognised that the Club does need more support both financially and in terms of manpower and this should be achievable given the historical association between the town and the football club which extends over a period of 120 years.

The mood at the Club amongst Staff, Players and management is extremely optimistic with everyone working towards a common objective and it would be great to see as many local people as possible attend Stag Meadow to support the Club as we push for promotion.

Peter Simpson
Chairman
Windsor & Eton FC
