| ROYALISTS KNOCKED OUT OF BERKS & BUCKS CUP |
Windsor & Eton's defence of the Berks & Bucks Senior Invitation Cup ended at the first hurdle with a 1-0 home defeat against a strong Wycombe Wanderers side. The first half came and went with no real danger from either side, the closest either side came were shots from the edge of the boxes. The only real issue for Windsor was the loss of Jake Parsons after only 15 minutes with a thigh strain. The second half, however, saw better chances for both sides with Windsor coming close early on. Michael Chennells broke free of the visiting defence to leave only Martin Brennan to beat, but a last ditch block by Michael Duberry saw the ball go wide of the post. From the resulting Scott Thomas corner Ryan Wharton rose highest but sent the ball over Brennan's bar. Stuart Green then forced a fine save from Rob Bullivant when he capitalised on Thomas's poor clearance. Chennells was then given anther great opportunity when he latched onto Joe Chandiram's through ball only to send the ball just wide of the post. At the other end Duberry should have done better when he was gifted a free header from a a Matt Phillips corner. The deciding strike came as both sides prepared for extra time. Jerome Frederico was able to to send the ball in from the right which was turned in via the head of Matt McClure. There was more than a hint if offside in the goal but the protests of the Windsor players were dismissed by the officials |
