Eighteen Southern League Division One South & West teams have tried to halt Windsor & Eton’s title challenge but none seem to be as successful as the current Christmas cold snap.
Windsor’s visit to Frome Town was abandoned due to a frozen pitch at the Aldersmith Stadium in Sussex last weekend and Boxing Day’s clash with Stag Meadow tenants Bedfont Green could suffer a similar fate.

Ten of the 11 scheduled games were postponed last weekend, with Bridgewater Town’s 3-0 home victory over Andover the only match to survive. As a result, Keith Scott’s side remain eight points clear as we approach the season’s half way mark.
According to the met office spells of heavy rain are expected on Wednesday and Christmas Eve with bright sunshine on Christmas Day. However, a high of just 3 degrees during the daytime and freezing temperatures in the evening may prove too much for the Berkshire venue.
With recent impressive victories against second placed AFC Totton and league strugglers Bracknell Town the Royalists will hope that the weather will not cost them too much momentum in their push for promotion.
Windsor recorded their fifth consecutive clean sheet against Bracknell and have now gone eight hours and 17 minutes without conceding.
If the game gets the go-ahead the club’s impressive defensive record will be tested by Bedfont who, with 37 goals in 18 matches, are the league’s fourth highest scorers.
Dennis Bainborough’s team have a poor recorded to date against the division’s top teams having lost six out of eight and picking up just two points from a possible 24.
However, their 4-1 home defeat against Frome earlier this month was the only time the club have been beaten by more than one goal against a top eight side. Arguably their best result in the 2009/10 campaign to date was an 8-0 thumping of Bracknell back in August.
The club has struggled at ‘home’ this season, winning two from eight. On their travels they have collected 15 of their 23 points and have only lost three out of ten.
Bedfont Green FC has only been in existence since 1965. Their Chairman, Doug White, retired as a player in 2006 with over 1,000 appearances, two days before his 50th birthday.
Striker Russell Minor is the Peacocks’ leading goal scorer this season with nine, including a hat trick in a 4-3 loss to VT FC in October. Their most in form player is the skilful Chris Henry who has found the back of the net eight times to date including one in each of his last three games.
