The Royalists got straight down to business and should have been ahead in the opening couple of minutes when Jon Beames dropped Joe Chandiram's cross and then recovered to beat Victor Osobu to the ball.

They did find the net moments later when Rob Bullivant easily dealt with an Abingdon corner and quickly released Bruce Wilson.

Wilson's long cross field ball found Michael Chennells who beat Simon Goodrham before finding Osobu who stabbed the ball into an empty net.

Osobu should have added a second when Chennells played him in again but Beames was able deny the Royalists striker.

Abingdon's best and only real chance of the half came just before the half hour when Bullivant had to push Billy Beechers effort round the post.

The lead was doubled just before half time when Steve Butler's long ball was flicked on by Richard Peirson giving Osobu a clear run at Beames, who he rounded before sliding the ball into the net.

Abingdon were almost gifted a way back into the match at the start of the second half when Butler seemed to totally miss the ball letting in James Faulkner but he was denied by a fine save from Bullivant.

Andrew Fagan should have put the result beyond doubt when his header from a Scott Thomas corner was cleared off the line.

That was closely followed by Chennells going through again with only Beames to beat but Abingdon's keeper was able to keep the ball out of his goal.
