As Keith Scott was the first to admit, it’s been an unforgettable week for the Windsor & Eton FC manager – both on and off the pitch.
Sandwiched in between 2-1 victories over Taunton Town and AFC Hayes, the former Wycombe Wanderers player was acclaimed as the fans’ favourite to take over the managerial hotseat vacated by Peter Taylor.

However, when the considerable dust had settled, Scott, who officially threw his name into the ring, was pipped to the post by Aldershot boss and friend Gary Waddock.
However, it was a few days Scott won’t forget in a hurry, as he explained.
He said: “It has been fantastic to be mentioned for the job. I know the Wycombe fans on the club forum wanted me to get it, which is very flattering.
“It’s been a bit of a crazy week with all the attention, but it’s an indication of the good job done at Windsor by me, Jim Melvin and the players. My phone didn’t stop ringing on Monday.”
He added: “I’ve known Gary for about 15 years and I think he has been selected to do a job, to keep them up.”
Asked whether he might be tempted by the position left vacant at Aldershot, Scott said: “It’s a big job. It’s not something I’ve thought about. It’s just not on my radar.”
However, very much in focus was Windsor’s league matches this week which saw two successes, although Tuesday’s came late.
Scott said: “Both games were similar actually in that we created a huge number of chances and could have had the match sewn up by half-time, but as so often this season we didn’t.
“But it’s a great credit to our players’ desire and fitness that we were able to score two late goals against Hayes to take the points.
“We have proved we are a team which can score in the first or 90th minute. Overall I thought we deserved it.”
He added: “The players have a winning mentality. It’s not luck to score twice in the final minutes. It’s tough to score at any time, but our guys keep going to the last.”
On Saturday, the Royalists are away to Evesham United in the FA Trophy.
Scott said: “They are in the division above and I expect a tough physical match. But we have nothing to lose.”
