Windsor & Eton 2 - 1 Paulton Rovers The FA Carlsberg Trophy Preliminary Round | Saturday 3rd October 2009 |
|
| ROYALISTS THROUGH AFTER CONTROVERSIAL END |
Windsor & Eton secured a trip to Zamaretto Premier side Evesham Utd following a 2-1 against Paulton Rovers.Windsor had a slow but good start to the match and should have taken the lead on 19 minutes when Bruce Wilson’s free kick hit the wall and fell nicely for Scott Thomas who’s effort was deflected over. Paulton then got into the game and came very close when Charlie Rich shot from distance forcing Rob Bullivant to tip the ball over the bar. On 32 minutes it was the visitors that got themselves ahead when the Windsor defence failed to deal with Rich’s cross allowing Josh Jeffries and easy finish. The second half saw the home side come alive and should have draw level almost instantly when Michael Chennells headed Ryan Parsons cross over the bar. Just short of the hour and Paulton should have doubled their lead when Neikell Plummer brought the ball down and was only denied by a last ditch challenge from Steve Butler. As the half went on chances went begging for Windsor and when Scott Thomas headed Jake Parsons cross wide it looked like one of those days for the Royalists. That was before a looping ball into the box from Jake Parsons found the head of Robert Claridge who headed the ball into his own net with 10 minutes left. Just when it looked as if a replay was on the cards there was a moment of controversy. Jake Parsons corner was headed onto the bar by Andrew Fagan and the ball bounced down and span away from goal. No one celebrated or even claimed a goal until they realised that the assistant referee was flagging for a goal. |
