| ROYALISTS SAFELY THROUGH |
Windsor & Eton made it safely through to the 1st Qualifying Round of this seasons FA Cup after a 3-1 win against Bowers & Pitsea.Windsor started strongly against their Essex Senior League opponents and should have taken an early lead when Scott Thomas’ effort deflected off Michael Chennells forcing Paul Horwood into a fine save. Thomas almost scored a minute later when his cross hit the post and Steve Butlers follow up was blocked by Neil Marron. Bowers took the lead on 19 minutes when a ball over the defence sent Nick Judd through and after a collision with Rob Bullivant, Craig Gillam slotted in. The lead lasted all of 4 minutes as Ryan Parsons cross found Thomas and his header was turned in by Chennells. Windsor stepped up the pace and should have gone in as half time leaders as Joe Chadiram, Andrew Fagan and Andy Shed all spurned chances. The second half saw Windsor pin their opponents in their own half and utilised the long throw of Steve Dell. Dell’s long throw in the opening minutes of the half should have seen Steve Butler put his side ahead but he headed just wide. Fagan then headed another couple of chances just wide and Shed struck the post. Horwood then made two great saves to deny Thomas and Chennells before Bowers were undone by Dells throw. A poor punch by Horwood set up Butler to head in Windsor’s second. The match was wrapped up in the closing minutes when Thomas slid the ball through to Chennells and lobbed the advancing Horwood from the side of the area. |
